As you may already know, tooth decay is a serious dental issue that should be avoided at all costs. However, sometimes that goal is unachievable if you aren’t sure what causes tooth decay in the first place. So, to help you, our George Strickland, DDS team is happy to tell you all about the causes of tooth decay, which are:

-Not keeping up on oral hygiene. You need to make sure and brush your teeth twice a day, floss your smile once a day, rinse your mouth daily with mouthwash, and visit your dentist regularly.

-Eating foods that are high in sugar and carbohydrates. These products tend to feed the bacteria in the mouth.

-Not getting enough fluoride. It’s important to nourish and strengthen your teeth each day with fluoride so they can have the ability to fight off tooth decay.

-Not producing enough saliva in the mouth. If you don’t produce enough saliva, the bacteria, food particles, and debris won’t be washed away on a regular basis.

-Using tobacco products.
